In 1912 The National Association of Jewelers of the U.S. established a list of birthstones for each month of the year. 

Later, with the new century alternative birthstones were added to offer more variety in color, price, and availability. These new additions also reflect modern gem discoveries and new and evolving tastes. 

January (Garnet): The Deep Red symbolizes Protection, Passion, Strength, and It's believed to boost energy. 

February (Amethyst): The Purple one symbolizes Wisdom, Tranquility, spiritual clarity, and transformations.

March (Aquamarine): Pale Blue or the blood stone symbolizes: Serenity, Courage in adversity, and protection in stormy waters. 

April (Diamond): Brilliant clear and shiny symbolizes: Strength, eternal love, and represents unbreakable bonds and enduring the truth.

May (Emerald): Rich Green symbolizes: Renewal, hope, fertility, rebirth and treasured by royalty in abundance for one's life. 

June (Pearl): Classic White symbolizes: Purity, innocence, and inner wisdom that is formed in the ocean's depths.

July (Ruby): The Crimson Red symbolizes: Passionate Love, fierce courage, and force energy. Known as the king of gems it can also protect the heart. 

August (Peridot): Bright Lime symbolizes: Growth, Prosperity, protection, and can enhance one's confidence.

September (Blue Sapphire): Deep Blue symbolizes: Loyalty, Wisdom, Divine truth, and protects against envy. 

October (Pink Tourmaline): Pink symbolizes Nurturing stone, associated with love, compassion, and emotional recovery. 

November (Yellow Sapphire and Citrine): Pale Yellow to Deep Golden symbolizes Attracts good fortune, wisdom, and also mental clarity and happiness. 

December (Blue Topaz and Turquoise): The Sky Blue to Blue Green symbolizes Healing, Protection and good luck.
